One Saturday morning, a friend of mine decided she was going to make herself a delicious cup of French press coffee, before leaving for the weekend. What can be better on a Saturday morning then a delicious cup of French press coffee?
She boiled some water, scooped a tablespoon of course grounds into the glass press and added the now hot water into the container until it reached close to the brim.
The smell was aromatic! She was very excited to start her morning with a rich cup of home brewed coffee. Stirring the hot water around with a wooden spoon, the anticipation for the caffeine grew as she continued to stir the contents clockwise. But as she was closing in on her last stir, a slip of the finger knocked the spoon from her grasp and hit the bottom of the container, smashing the press into tiny smithereens. The hot wet contents of the dark grounds now lay around her bare feet, the shards of glass scatter around her kitchen.
“I started to clean it up and it was just smearing around everywhere, leaving a brown trail,” she would tell me. “It was an actual fuck you bitch from life. I didn’t even do anything wrong. Oh you thought you were going to have a nice morning, take this!” she hilariously quips.
With one look at the disaster in front of her, her ideal day now a heaping mess on the floor, she threw her hands up above her head, exerting a big inhale and calmly but bluntly declared “I’m out!”
“It was a morning full of promise and excitement, and then it was just a kick to the cunt,” she poignantly remarks.
Grabbing her coat, she departs her apartment for the weekend, opting to leave the mess and frustration behind in favor of fresh air and friends.
A full 24 hours later, she comes home to the same mess the previous day. But now the coffee grounds were fully dry, making it an cinch to clean up. Her frustration had turned into humor, laughing in the process, as she swept up the glass and grounds in a mere few sweeps.
The point is, we are going to have bad days, and to quote my friend, “life can kick you in the cunt sometimes,” but always remember: it will be ok, just breathe.
